The Corporate Communications Specialist will work with the Corporate Communications team to develop compelling stories and information for internal and external communications, including but not limited to the company newsletter (Blue flame), customer newsletter (Good Gas News) and other internal and external communications vehicles.  In addition, the incumbent will assist PGW departments in the planning, creation, and production of materials to communicate information about PGW’s programs, services, practices and policies to the general public, governmental agencies, employees and other companies.




Write a variety of company related content including but not limited to Intranet, web, news releases, feature stories, creative pieces, reports, advertisements, customer relations forms, signs and displays, biographies, and human interest stories.


Research and analyze all editorial background information related to stories ensuring information is complete and accurate.


Coordinate information gathering activities and provides detailed documentation to support PGW articles including but not limited to:


Arranging interviews with internal clients/employees who can provide information about a particular story.


Maintaining resource library via interned, personal contacts, public relations, etc.


Reviewing and evaluating notes taken in order to isolate pertinent facts and details.


Review and edit copy, correcting errors in content, grammar, and punctuation following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines.


Manage and support a variety of internal campaigns.


Keep abreast of internal and external developments that may affect PGW and communicate release of such developments after careful consultation with supervisor and director.


Perform other special projects and assignments as requested.



Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or other related field of study is required. 


3 to 5 years work experience writing a wide range of materials for general public readership or the news media; demonstrated ability to execute editorial prudence and process.


Thorough knowledge and command of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.


Thorough knowledge of and experience with copy, feature and promotional writing; coordination of publication production; and dissemination techniques and methods including alternative ways to inform via written, oral, social and visual media.


Strong computer skills with knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office.


Strong written communication skills with the ability to effectively convey information geared for targeted readers as well as mixed audiences.


Strong verbal communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to build long-term constructive and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, vendors, management and outside agencies.


Must be familiar with all news media channels of communications; have detailed knowledge of major company operations; extensive experience in dealing with many kinds of people and organizations; and well-developed creative, analytical and writing skills.


Experience working directly with members of the media, including pitching stories and arranging interviews.


Firm understanding of social media tools and technologies that can be used within a company environment.


Must be flexible with the ability to work smoothly under pressure producing high quality results on short notice.
