    Specialist - Strategic Planning Office - Corporate Planning 

     

    Philadelphia County Residency Requirement within 12 months of hire

    Responsibilities

    The Strategic Planning Specialist (SPS) is responsible for supporting PGW’s Strategic and Business Objectives that are aligned with PGW’s Corporate Planning Department.  The individual must be familiar with concepts, practices, and procedures within the gas utility industry.  The SPS works under supervision and direction from the Strategic Planning Office Director to create and oversee the development and implementation of PGW’s strategic plans, involving departmental and cross-functional teams.  The incumbent will manage the documentation, submissions, and information, as well as logistics for the Strategic Goals and Objectives process.  This SPS will carry out research and analysis needed to support the evaluation of new opportunities, the assessment of ongoing business activities, and PGW’s continuous ideation process, including identifying trends and monitoring economic indicators that may translate to viable programs that drive PGW’s improvement initiatives with a focus on innovation. 

     

    Responsibilities Include:

     

    Strategic Planning

     

     

    Support a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and growth by PGW’s Strategic Planning Office supporting the Strategic Planning Office Director in all aspects of PGW’s strategic planning process.

     

    Gather data necessary on resources/projects to facilitate the process of defining the strategy.

     

    Inputs, revise, and maintain the repository of PGW’s strategic projects/programs (enterprise-wide/cross department.).

     

    Support Director of SPO for PGW’s Strategic Goals & Objectives reporting (metrics).

     

    Assist in scheduling, hosting and capturing meetings required for the process of PGW’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

     

    Update the communication of strategic plan information for superiors ensuring appropriate parties are always well informed of changes and newsworthy events.

     

    Participate in PGW’s continuous ideation process, including generating, developing, and communicating new ideas (visual, concrete, or abstract), including writing white papers, benchmarking other companies, conducting external research and analysis, attending industry conferences.

    Help to evaluate and redesign project plans understanding the implications of different technical/process choices and is able to guide internal clients to the best solution for their situation; applies business analytics/statistical methods to evaluate.

     

    Maintain Enterprise Business Planning tools, processes and standards to ensure compliance and proper use.

     

    Help to identify appropriate enterprise, departmental and resource metrics and consistency of measures across the organization.

     

    Personnel Management

     

    Adhere to company policies, practices and procedures including collective bargaining agreement when applicable.  

     

    Finance & Accounting

     

    Ensure timely transfer of information from strategic plan to operating and capital budget processes.

     

    Help to maintain appropriate tracking systems for maintaining control of unit expenditures for standard work needs and special project coordination.

     

    Other Related Functions

     

    Research data, industry trends, and economic indicators for potential viable programs that drive the organization’s improvement initiatives with a focus on innovation.

     

    Perform other special projects and assignments as directed.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or other related field of study; Master’s degree, Strategic Management certification or coursework preferred.

     

    Business or strategic planning experience, preferably in government, utilities, or a regulated industry. Specialist I and II require 3-5 years` experience; Senior Specialist requires 5+ years of experience.

     

    Must have interpersonal influential skills with the ability to support and encourage a sense of change throughout the business and assist in cross-functional and cross-departmental projects.

     

    Must have strong organizational skills, be able to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple projects, pay close attention to details, and consistently meet deadlines.

     

    Must have the ability to communicate persuasively and influentially, both verbally and in writing, across a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

     

    Must have the ability to develop detailed business and communications plans, project status reports, proposed changes and presentations that are tailored for the specific audience in order to get buy in to decisions.

     

    Must have the ability to identify and document detailed components of workflows and to make recommendations on how to appropriately modify those workflows.

    Must have the ability to understand the "big picture" and long-term implications, as well as the short-term impacts and challenges (in short, the context) and how to achieve the strategy through tactical execution.

     

    Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and accounting software such as Oracle, Quicken, etc.

     

    Solid critical/analytical thinking is required, including the ability to make assessments, develop well thought out solutions to problems and take corrective action. 

     

    Must be able to be a strong advocate for advancement of strategic initiatives, which may be process-oriented in nature.

     

    Experience in data mining, data analysis, financial analysis and strategic marketing is beneficial.

     

    Residency Requirement:  All employees of the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) must live in the City of Philadelphia for the duration of their employment. If a candidate does not live in the City of Philadelphia at the time of hire, he/she must move into the city within twelve (12) months of his/her hire date.
