    Senior Instrumentation Technician

    Responsibilities

    Responsible for safe performance of job assignments, maintenance of good housekeeping conditions on work location and performance of other related duties as assigned.

     

    Direct and assist in the development of lower graded classifications as required.

     

    Responsible for safe performance of job assignments, maintenance, of good housekeeping conditions on work location and performance of other related duties as assigned.

     

    Install, operate, test, calibrate, maintain and repair various types of measurement and control instruments, electronic, mechanical or pneumatic, either manual or automatic. These instruments record, indicate, or control, heating value, humidity or dew point, specific gravity, temperature, combustible mixtures, flow, height, odorant, volume, liquid level, speed, weight, and time. Also included are analyzers (chemical, mechanical, ad electronic), tele-metrics or remote transmission, alarms and safety devices, clocks and regulators. Install wells, tubes and thermocouples.  

     

    Work from complicated drawings, specifications and sketches and is able to completely follow through on job assignments.

     

    Write reports for all repairs, tests inspections, and calibrations of instruments.

     

    Conduct necessary tests and instruments maintenance on such installations.

     

    Remove and install valves/ regulators 4 inches and under.

     

    Install simple supports for instruments and electrical equipment.

     

    Paint instrument/ electrical supports and equipment.

     

    Perform other duties as assigned. 

    Qualifications

    High school diploma/ GED is required. 

     

    Valid driver’s license is required.  Must possess a CDL license to operate some company vehicles.

     

    Once employed, must be authorized by the PGW Fleet Operations Department as a qualified operator of company vehicles.  Will be required to operate company vehicles to and from job sites.

     

    Must possess the ability to perform all the duties of a Technician and a Junior Technician.

     

    Must pass a written, computer based, and hands-on demonstrated skills test.

     

    Certified Controls Technician by the Instrument Society of America (ISA) is preferred.

     

    Must have the ability and willingness to climb at extreme heights.

     

    Must have the ability and willingness to work in a confine space.

     

    Must have understanding of cryogenic applications.

     

    Must have strong knowledge and understanding of the problems of gas measurement and control within the plants, metering stations and industrial supply runs and is able to make adaptations of instruments for special jobs.

     

    Must be able to change out lights in hazardous areas.

     

    Experience with service and repair DCS equipment.

     

    Experience calibrating and troubleshooting instrument loops.

     

    Experience with service analyzers and recording instruments.

     

    Must be clean shaved at all times to comply with PGW Respirator Readiness Policy.

     

    Must be able to don and doff a full face respirator.


    Residency Requirement:  All employees of the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) must live in the City of Philadelphia for the duration of their employment. If a candidate does not live in the City of Philadelphia at the time of hire, he/she must move into the city within twelve (12) months of his/her hire date.
