  • Responsibilities

    Assist the Staff Engineer with developing and coordinating efforts of customers, vendors, manufacturers and departments in order to:

     

    -Obtain desired technical specifications for fleet units that meet operational needs

    -Oversee the requisition process from start to delivery and acceptance

    -Determine optimal schedules to minimize downtime and corrective maintenance

    -Develop specialized, non-standard needs as necessary

     

    Complete various analyses evaluate findings and make recommendations in support of the Capital Fleet Budget including but not limited to determining:

     

    -Optimal fleet size for each department and repair vs. replacement costs for fleet units.

    -Each class of fleet vehicle’s economic life expectancy

    -Which vendor product packages meet or exceed desired specifications without penalty.

    -Operational impact where penalties do exist as well as levels of acceptability; forward results to purchasing

     

    Assist in the preparation of pertinent portions of the Operations & Maintenance budget including but not limited to:

     

    -Tracking corporate experience for maintenance and operating costs to enhance life cycle analysis.

    -Tracking operating and maintenance costs to identify manufacturers’ trends in cost-efficient vehicles and equipment.

     

    Plans the approved acquisition of the most cost-effective vehicles and equipment for use by PGW’s departments including but not limited to:

     

    -Developing letters, design drawings, contracts, etc. that communicate desired specifications to vendors

    -Preparing request for purchase and approving blanket spare parts purchase orders

    -Ensuring vehicles and equipment are delivered as specified

     

    Develop current vehicle and equipment lists for determining which available, obtainable items are best suited for operational needs (i.e. specifications, line drawings, and Equipment Average Uniform Cost) 

     

    Coordinate Standard Vehicle Committee along with the Staff Engineer that consistently evaluates and updates a pool of standard designs and technical specifications for each department that meet Federal and State Department of Transportation regulatory requirements (color combinations, lighting, clearances, etc.)

     

    Maintain all accident records within the Fleet Management Information System and coordinates with other departments on the reporting, repair, and recovery of all damaged vehicles.

     

    Assist in the administration of PGW Fleet Operation’s asset management and diagnostic hardware/software, including but not limited to:

     

    -Fleet Management Information System (M5 by AssetWorks)

    -Fleet Operations Fuel management System (FuelForce by MultiForce)

    -PGW Telematics Solution (Fleetmatics Reveal)

    -Fleet Operations Database Portal (Microsoft SharePoint)

     

    Acquire, track, and retain records for rental vehicles and pieces of equipment as requested by departments.

     

    Generate reports and metrics to be delivered to other members of the Fleet Operations Management team as well as other departments including but not limited to:

     

    -Recurring Vehicle Inventory Reports

    -Monthly Metric Reports

    -Repair Reason Cost Reports

    -Fuel Usage Reports

    -Vehicle Utilization Reports

     

    Schedule and coordinate training for all Fleet Operations Union personnel.

     

    Fulfill other responsibilities of the Fleet Staff Engineer on an as needed basis.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Asset Management, Project Management, or related field is required. 

     

    3 to 5 years relevant work experience.

     

    Must be able to coordinate multiple activities under unusual circumstances.

     

    Must be computer literate with experience in work management systems.

     

    Must have a strong customer service orientation.

     

    Must have solid oral and written communication skills.
