This entry level professional position works with a Senior Staff Engineer to learn the business processes, procedures, practices and regulations associated with the coordination and performance of all aspects of engineering projects including concept design and development, drawings and specifications, project schedules, budget estimates, cost control, code compliance, etc. The incumbent assists in various projects as directed to gain the hands on knowledge necessary to successfully progress within PGW’s engineering schedule.
This level professional is an independent contributor to the essential work of engineering project teams. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination, oversight and performance of all aspects of engineering projects including concept design and development, drawings and specifications, project schedules, budget estimates, cost control, code compliance, supervision of construction, etc. Engineers at this level typically work on projects with work order authorization starting in the $100,000 range. These incumbents work with other professionals whom share responsibility for broader business processes providing support and advice to ensure project priorities are in compliance with PGW and other regulatory body standards.
The Staff Engineer is expected to maintain and improve engineering processes by planning, performing and completing engineering project design work within a specialized discipline such as mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and chemical engineering. The incumbent is responsible for developing and monitoring each assignment and project in addition to coordinating the progression of the assignments throughout the entire project. Staff Engineers are capable of performing all of the functions of its lower level peer group, performs higher level and more complex engineering project designs with work order authorizations starting in the $250,000 range.
Senior Staff Engineer
The Senior Staff Engineer is expected to pan, manage and coordinate individual and group efforts relating to the completion of multiple planning, engineering and architectural design project and assignments including research, proposed concept designs, formulation of budgets and cost estimates for customer review. The incumbent is expected to achieve specific project related goals within a previously determined budget and timeline, interact with customer to recognize and analyze engineering problems and generate solutions including estimated costs to complete projects. In addition, to being capable of performing all of the functions of its lower level peers, the Sr. Staff Engineer coordinates and establishes a consensus of approvals regarding designs, layouts, and equipment selections to facilitate resolutions Impact decisions can be measured within 3 to 6 months and on project timeline bases.
Philadelphia County Residency Requirement within 12 months of hire
Residency Requirement: All employees of the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) must live in the City of Philadelphia for the duration of their employment. If a candidate does not live in the City of Philadelphia at the time of hire, he/she must move into the city within twelve (12) months of his/her hire date.
