The Manager, System Engineering & Desktop Support is responsible for managing the planning, coordination, configuration installation, management, and administration of all systems (Microsoft/Unix/Linux/Microfocus) and related client services within the enterprise to meet business requirements. Manages Desktop Support Team and all desktop infrastructure. Manages team that troubleshoots, maintains, upgrades, and provides solutions to complex hardware/software problems. Provides vision and anticipation/problem-solving skills relating to current and future system needs.



Responsibilities Include:

Systems Engineering and Desktop Support

Manages efforts that assist application developers with problem determination, system and application tuning, sufficient resources for their short- and long-term growth including but not limited to:

-Providing appropriate hardware/software resources, technical consulting and performance analysis

skills to the application development and business applications groups

-Managing, identifying, and resolving hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions

for enterprise wide systems

-Performing capacity planning, workload modeling/prediction, and identifying solutions through

constant interfacing with appropriate management levels, clients, departments, and vendor



Develop and continuously review procedures Systems administration to ensure a stable performance environment for all enterprise systems providing necessary infrastructure for PGW to meet its business needs including but not limited to:

-Setting and maintaining standards for enterprise server, desktop systems and network security

-Minimizing client productivity loss caused by technology outages by alerting management, help

desk team, and other IS groups when sensitive issues arise or a major problem is suspected

-Ensuring PGW's clienUserver technology keeps pace with new products and industry directions.


Manage partnerships and alliances with key IS suppliers and consultants including but not limited to:

-Maintaining reliable vendor sources and coordinating multiple vendor solutions and integration to

ensure information can be shared between systems of different vendors; interviews vendors to gain

information on products and technological conditions, production methods, quality control, delivery

schedules and general ability to serve PGW.

-Resolving differences with vendors including material not in conformance with required

specifications such as incorrect pricing, terms, delivery dates and contract conditions to ensure a

cost-effective and efficient infrastructure environment.

Personnel Management

Manage the coordination of direct reports in the preparation, documentation and participation in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity initiatives. This includes the routine maintenance of offsite documentation and media required for the recovery process as well as preparation for and participation in Disaster Recovery tests and post-test reporting.


Monitor subordinate project teams work activities by developing project timelines, milestones and analyzing impact, determine priorities of activities, making work assignments, monitors projects. and providing direction and assistance as required.


Ensure subordinates are properly trained and adhere to company policies, practices and procedures including collective bargaining agreement when applicable.


Finance & Accounting

Allocate project budgets consistent with PGW's strategic and operating plans. Develops justification for all capital projects and monthly justification for all variances for the operating budget. Assists with the budget development process and manages the spending for area of responsibility for both operating and capital budgets.


Interface with Purchasing and Accounting as necessary to place new orders and resolve billing issues.


Other Related Functions

Ensure all Systems Engineering and Desktop infrastructure projects align with PGW and IS Strategic Plans; works with IS Senior Team to develop , monitor and maintain systems that ensure alignment throughout implementation of the project. Anticipates and identifies issues inhibiting the attainment of project goals to develop and implement corrective action.


Perform other special projects and assignments as directed.


Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Computer Science, Information Technology or related area of study


5 to 7 years experience with LAN/WAN and System Operations and in-depth working knowledge of such programs as SUSE and Oracle Linux, Windows, 7/10/2008,2012,2016,2019 , UNIX, Microfocus eDirectory, LDAP, Microfocus Zenworks, NetlQ Access Manager, , MS Exchange,MS SQL Server,Oracle,TCP/IP,,Ethernet, Commvault,etc.


Must have knowledge of general office practices including but not limited to office administration, budget/accounting principles, procurement procedures, strategic planning, team building and personnel management.


Must have supervisory experience with the ability to create a professional and constructive environment that fosters a team-oriented and customer service approach to day-to-day operations


Must be a creative innovator and hands-on manager capable of managing a diverse highly skilled technical professional staff


Must have knowledge and understanding of distributed systems architecture and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines.


Must have technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, network topologies, PC workstations (configurations and connectivity), network servers, applicable software and troubleshooting techniques and the ability to apply this knowledge by coaching and guiding subordinate employees.
