Supervisor, Financial Reporting & Reconciliation

 

This Supervisor is responsible for the daily and monthly activities of the general ledger system and the reconciliation of all PGW bank accounts. These functions include ensuring the proper recording, maintenance and reporting of all bank accounts with special attention to variances, errors and fraudulent activity.  The incumbent sets job standards and performance expectations as well as provides technical guidance to subordinates. 

 

Please note this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule of 3 days on site and 2 remote after six months (PA residents only).  Initially, you will be required to be on site 5 days per week at 800 W Montgomery Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19122.

Responsibilities

Finance Administration

  1. Oversees and coordinates the preparation, review, analysis, verification, printing and issuance of various financial, regularly scheduled government and industry reports (monthly, quarterly, annual and calendar year) to be submitted to organizations such as the Philadelphia Gas Commission, City of Philadelphia, PAPUC and Philadelphia Facilities Management Corporation.
  2. Verifies the accuracy of all journal entries, bank reconciliation adjustments, and approves transactions prior to posting to the general ledger in accordance with the definitions of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chart of Accounts.
  3. Acts as the secondary contact with all other departments on matters relating to the general ledger, financial statement preparation, completion of PGW’s annual account audits and independent audit/records requests.
  4. Assists in the review, selection, implementation and maintenance of accounting systems related to the general ledger and related interfacing systems including labor distributions, accounts payable and disbursements, collections and billing, budget, payroll and capital assets.

 

Personnel Management

  1. Coordinates subordinate work activities by developing project timelines, milestones and analyzing impact, determining priorities of activities, making work assignments, monitoring projects, and providing direction and assistance for a union staff.
  2. Assesses employee needs ensuring subordinates are properly trained and adhere to company policies, practices and procedures including the collective bargaining agreement when applicable. Assists the Manager with first step union grievance procedures.
  3. Evaluates and meets with subordinates to discuss work performance providing appropriate commendations and disciplinary actions to ensure employees are well equipped to meet and/or exceed job expectations.

 

Finance & Accounting

  1. Participates in the annual budget preparation process as needed or requested.
  2. Serves as a Labor Administrator for the Time, Labor and Management system (TLM) ensuring system integrity by addressing future issues, defects, new configuration, reporting requirements and general system maintenance as well as providing direction over the labor and ancillary cost accounting functions and allocation information systems.

 

Other Related Functions

  1. Keeps abreast of current accounting regulations and standards; ensures unit is up-to-date and processing information in accordance to federal, state and local regulations. 
  2. Performs other special projects and assignments as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or other related area required.
  • 1 – 3 years’ experience relating to the control and coordination of bank reconciliation statements.
  • Must have supervisory skills with the ability to create a professional and constructive environment that fosters a team-oriented and customer service approach to day-to-day operations.
  • Union management experience a plus.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Must have knowledge of the Uniform System of Accounts issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) accounting requirements.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and persuasively to management, union and employees regarding finance initiatives, issues and problems.
  • Must have analytical skills with the ability to produce detailed verbal and written financial reports/statements.
  • Must be familiar with Accounting Software packages, preferably Oracle Financials.
