Please note that this position is on site at 800 W. Montgomery Ave, Philadelphia, PA.  A hybrid work schedule may be available after six months for PA residents.  The job may often require 5 days in the office.

Senior Attorney – Transactional / Contract / Customer Complaints  

The Senior Attorney, advises and actively represents PGW in a variety of legal matters and business transactions which may include but not be limited to contracts, procurement, real estate and other areas requiring legal counseling and/or assistance. The Senior Attorney also coordinates matters referred to outside law firms.

Responsibilities

Generally, the Senior Attorney:

  1. Provides written and oral legal advice on matters affecting the interests of PGW.
  2. Negotiates and drafts various agreements and documents.
  3. Researches appropriate legal opinions, rulings and findings in order to provide the soundest legal advice regarding company matters.
  4. Advises and actively represents PGW in negotiations, administrative and court actions as assigned; prepares appropriate legal documents associated with these processes.
  5. Analyzes and interprets federal, state and local statutes, case law, ordinances, legislation and regulations to determine their application to company business procedures, policy and practices.
  6. Advises management and represents legal perspective on new and proposed changes to company policies, procedures and practices.
  7. Coaches and mentors lower level and newly hired attorneys, assisting them in developing essential skills to be successful with PGW by providing first level guidance on policies, procedures and practices of the department and organization and training in the responsibilities associated with legal matters for PGW and the gas industry.
  8. Consults with other departments as necessary to carry out assigned responsibilities.
  9. Performs other special projects and assignments as requested.
 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Must be a law school graduate with an LLB or JD degree
  • Must be admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar.
  • Government or regulatory agency experience preferred.
  • Must have 10 or more years of experience working with a combination of environmental and transactional law.
  • Must have analytical and communication skills with the to interpret and translate complex legal terms into written and verbal forms that are easily understood by all levels of staff
  • Must have leadership ability with a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions in order to provide guidance to lower level peer group and assist Legal Department in identifying the best people for special assignments and advancement.
